The
First annual March Mega Ball held in Huntsville, AL March 5-6, 2010 and was a huge
success. The venue was the Christian Life Center of First Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL.
We thank the Dr. David Hull pastor, Jud Reasons, Associate Pastor, and Terry Lonergan,
Director and their staff for the use of this perfect facility with beautiful hardwood
floors. The event had 38 couples (76 registered dancers) and 16 new dancers taking
advantage of introduction to rounds classes.
The primary teachers were Jerry and Barbara Pierce
of Birmingham, AL and Tim Eum and Cindy Hadley from Huntsville, AL. Several Round Dance
leaders attended the event including Richard
& Joanne Lawson (Birmingham, AL), Gene & Etta Sonnier (Houma, LA), Bob &
Rachel Boudrow (Murfreesboro,
TN), Darryl
& Ann McMillan (Decatur, AL), Elwood & Laura LeBlanc (Slidell, LA), and Tom (Mac)
& Gloria McMullin (Hernando, MS). On Friday night, Darryl McMillan, Gene Sonnier, and
Bob Boudrow cued for the Mega Ball. Demos of all dances taught on Saturday were presented
on Friday Evening. The Mega Balls program varied between phase 2 and phase 4 with
phase 5 dances cued during the request/pre-rounds. Saturday night featured Jerry Pierce
and Tim Eum as cuers and demo dances by the Gene & Etta Sonnier, Tim Eum & Cindy
Hadley, and Jerry & Barbara Pierce.
Many
dancers were excited by the opportunity to attend their first all rounds weekend and it
was noted by multiple round dance leaders that this was the largest all rounds event in
Alabama in at least 15 years. The dancers were treated to dancing, southern hospitality,
and great food in a beautifully decorated hall. Many dancers and teachers assisted to make
this event a huge success and generate an enthusiasim for dancing that has been missing in
the region for over a decade. Cindy and Tim are extremely grateful for the support the
round dance community and the Huntsville area have extended to make the Mega Ball a
success.
